Help & FAQ

Quick answers about the projects, playing, saving, characters and privacy. Looking for something specific? Search the site or send feedback.

Getting started

What is SideQuest?

A shelf of side projects in progress: apps, games and experiments, each started to learn something. Every project page says what it explores, what it is built with and how far it has got.

Is SideQuest free?

Yes. Every current game is free to play. There are no ads, purchases, paid currency or subscriptions.

Do I need an account?

No. Life, Learn and Collection all open as previews you can play right away. An account is only needed to keep saved progress across devices.

How do I find something quickly?

Use search in the header, or press / or Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac). It understands related words and small typos, so “tablet” finds ConsolePad and “dark” finds the theme switch.

The side projects

Which projects can I use here?

Life, Learn and Collection run in your browser, free. Classroom is a separate demo for schools. The other projects run on your own devices, and their pages follow them as they are built.

Can I download ConsolePad, Orbit or GC?

Not yet. ConsolePad and GC are in development and Orbit is experimental. Sunday Sidekick is open source and runs on your own computer.

Is the code open source?

Sunday Sidekick is: its source is on GitHub. The other projects stay private while they take shape.

Why do some pages show concepts instead of screenshots?

Some projects are early. Design concepts are labelled as concepts, and Orbit has no screenshots yet; real screens replace them as each project grows.

How often do projects change?

Whenever there is something worth showing. Projects join the shelf when they start, not when they are finished. What’s new lists recent changes to the site and its games.

Playing Life

What is Life?

A fictional, U.S.-inspired life story. You choose a character, a world and a path, then make choices about family, school, work, money, health and relationships while time moves on a visible calendar.

Who decides what happens?

A deterministic game engine. It owns the rules, money, health and every outcome, so the same choices in the same world always lead to the same result. Narration is written by hand; AI never decides an outcome.

Where is my preview stored?

In this browser tab. Refreshing keeps it; closing the tab or clearing site data ends it. Nothing in a preview is sent to a server.

Can I undo a choice?

Saved lives move forward only, like a real life. You can keep up to five what-if branches to explore a different choice; branches are practice and earn no rewards.

Are the money and health numbers real advice?

No. Health, hunger, mental well-being, credit, pay and retirement are fictional game values. They are not medical, financial or legal advice and are never based on your real life.

Can a life end?

Yes, if you choose a finite lifetime. Endings are calm and non-graphic. You can also choose an open-ended story or close a life yourself with its life story recap.

Does Life include mature content?

Only if an adult opts in. Mature themes are off by default, need verified adult access and a deliberate setting, and every scene can be skipped or turned off.

Playing Learn

How does Learn work?

Each mission gives you short source documents and a question. Answer with a choice or in your own words, check the evidence, and leave a short note about what the sources support and what they cannot tell you.

Is my writing graded or saved?

Practice writing stays in the page and is never automatically graded. Saved quests on an account keep only the evidence needed to show your progress.

Where do the facts come from?

Every mission cites its sources so you can read them yourself. Practice missions use clearly labeled fictional documents.

Characters

How do I make a character?

Open Collection and pick a starting look, then change face, body, hair, outfit, accessories, colour and a pet companion. Try this look sends it to a new Life or Learn preview.

Does my character age?

Yes. In Life your character is drawn for each stage of life, from baby to elder, wearing the outfit you chose.

Why are some items locked?

Some wardrobe pieces are earned through play. Locked items show what they need, and anything you unlock works in every mode.

Accounts and privacy

What does SideQuest collect?

As little as possible. There are no ads or tracking for advertising, and data is never sold. Previews stay in your browser. Read the privacy policy.

Can I export or delete my data?

Yes. Account Center lets you download your data and delete your account, with a 30-day window to change your mind.

Is Classroom connected to my account?

No. Classroom is a separate site for schools with its own accounts. Nothing from Life, Learn or Collection is shared with it.

Accessibility and support

Can I switch to dark mode or reduce motion?

Yes. The sun and moon button in the header switches between light and dark, and the menu has a reduced-motion setting. The game window offers several reading themes, and everything works with a keyboard. In Life, press 1–9 or A–F to pick a choice and Enter to continue after an outcome.

Something isn't working. What should I do?

Check the service status page, then send feedback describing what happened. Feedback never needs to include your story or writing.
