About Orbit

Orbit asks how far a Mac app can go in letting you use other apps' real windows from one place. An experimental desktop mirrors native windows with typing, clicks, scrolling and resizing, verified so far with test apps, TextEdit and Calculator. Around it sit window overview and switching, saved workspaces, docks and themes, notes, tasks, mind maps and an on-device assistant. It is unreleased, and screenshots will follow.

Questions it’s working on

  1. Whether original app windows can be used inside another app with only public macOS APIs.
  2. Docks, a notch panel and a menu bar in AppKit, alongside a SwiftUI workspace.
  3. Measuring smoothness and energy use before claiming either.
